Ford Pits Virtual Race Times Vs. Real Life

Ford has been meeting success lately, with an announcement of a profit and the Ford Fusion being the best-selling domestic car in the United States. They also have been doing some interesting videos lately, namely the Ford Taurus SHO versus Audi A6 4.2 FSI video that has caused a stir among CarThrottle commenters. We recently reviewed the racing game Need for Speed: Shift here at CarThrottle and this promotional effort by Ford is timely. Does racing game skill translate to the track? As part of the 2010 Unleashed campaign, Ford put four long-time gamers against each other to see who got the best time in the Mustang on a virtual track in Shift. Following that, the four gamers were put into a real 2010 Mustang

Camaro Continues to Outsell Mustang

The introduction of the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger at similar times have ensured a battle between them for supremacy. Much like Chrysler's overall fortunes in the sales race, the Challenger has been left in the dust. The real question has been the competition between the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro. Historically, the Mustang has outsold the Camaro overall. The Camaro was GM's answer to the Mustang but it debuted after a lot of the initial pony car craze wore off. Some (including me) have wondered if history would repeat itself this time after Ford's success in 2005 with the Mustang redesign. When the Camaro debuted, it handily outsold the Mustang. Many declared that a victory that the car could beat the Mustang - one

Move Over, Build Your Own: Ford’s Mustang Customizer

Highly anticipated cars (and even not highly anticipated cars, come to think of it) often get flashy websites and vehicle configurators. You know the drill - a "build your own" where you can pick the vehicle's trim level, options and colors inside and out, culminating at the end with a page listing the price and configured vehicle options. While the 2010 Mustang has been highly anticipated, in addition to the usual configurator Ford is offering a different (and far more fun) approach with it's Mustang Customizer as part of the "2010 Mustang Experience." Look at that! No, it's not a screenshot - it's a wallpaper image created by the Mustang Customizer. Ford calls it a tool for "dreaming up your ultimate Mustang" and that it is.

Camaro Beats Mustang Sales For Second Month

Today brings a lot news about automotive sales figures. Normally, CarThrottle stays away from the boring sales information dumps that a lot of automakers do at the beginning of a month. However, last month we reported on something interesting - the Chevrolet Camaro passing the Ford Mustang up in sales. It's a big deal on one hand, and on the other it isn't. It's big firstly because the Mustang has historically been a higher seller, secondly because Ford has a much better image right now and thirdly the fact that there are a lot more Mustang models (like a convertible) available. On the other hand? The Camaro is a hot and highly-anticipated new product with 10,000 backorders to fill. Two months certainly doesn't a trend make, and

Move Over Mustang; Camaro Tops The Pony Car Charts

The Camaro is officially back. Yes it's back as in being produced again back, but also back as in capturing the hearts and minds of the motoring public. The Camaro is the car to have on the automotive scene right now, and that must feel really good for General Motors. Bankruptcy, what bankruptcy? Camaro buyers don't seem to care. The Ford Mustang is pretty much a perennial best-seller, doing well for Ford consistently over the years. When the original Camaro came out in the 1960's it sort of missed the initial pony car craze and it wasn't until the late 1970's that the Camaro ever passed the Mustang in yearly sales volume. I feared the same situation could have repeated itself now; once again GM was late to the game

U.S Air Force Mustang & Challenger

Well now here's something you don't see everyday! A press release related to performance cars by none other the U.S Air Force.  Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and the U.S Air Force. Now I know your interest is piqued! In order to aid in recruiting efforts (by getting your attention and showing off the capabilities of USAF workers) the U.S Air Force commisioned Galpin Auto Sports to produce two vehicles, the U.S Air Force Mustang X-1 and the U.S Air Force Dodge Challenger Vapor. As their names imply, the Mustang X-1 was designed in the style of a fighter jet while the Challenger Vapor is more befitting of the stealth role. The Challenger Vapor has carbon fibre disc wheels and and scissor doors. Inside, there is an infrared thermal imaging
