The automotive industry is a cutthroat industry - with many available options and competitive vehicles vying for the consumer's dollar. A new car can come along and change the dynamics of the segment it competes in. Hyundai has changed the dynamics with its lineup of new products. The remarkable transformation has extended from the mainstream to luxury spectrum. With these new models under their belt, Hyundai still isn't content to rest on its laurels. Autoblog has attended a Hyundai product briefing that revealed details about the brand's next-generation V-8 engine for use in high-end products. We know that Hyundai didn't spare much expense with its luxury forays, developing a new rear-wheel drive platform and V-8 to properly compete in the luxury market. The V-8 powerplant is dubbed "Tau" and

Hyundai Equus Gets Priced At $58,000

If the Hyundai Equus doesn't wake you up to the fact that something has drastically changed at Hyundai, we don't know what will. The brand has quickly gone from an also-ran to a product leader in the marketplace . Hyundai has consistently pushed the envelope at a breakneck pace with its rear-wheel drive Genesis sedan and Coupe models. The best example yet of how far Hyundai has progressed comes in the form of the Equus - and its price tag. $58,000 - yes you read that right....$58,000 for a Hyundai. 5 or 10 years ago that would have been unthinkable. However, today it is a different story. The Equus differentiates itself from failed attempts at the luxury segment such as Volkswagen's Phaeton by its value proposition. While the Phaeton

Autoblog Confirms Hyundai Genesis, Genesis Coupe and Equus to Get All-Wheel Drive

Don't look now, but there is no doubt Hyundai is on a roll. The brand's products are highly competitive entries in their respective segments up and down the spectrum. Perhaps most startling though has been Hyundai's upmarket ascension. It began with the Hyundai Azera and really came into its own with the Genesis. CarThrottle experienced it for ourselves with our review of the Genesis Coupe earlier this year. The next step in Hyundai's product blitz is the Equus. Hyundai isn't content to rest on its laurels though, as word has come of further improvements. Perhaps one of the greatest things to enthusiasts and those looking for a true luxury experience is the fact that Hyundai has offered up a credible rear-wheel drive platform. This platform underpins the Genesis,

Hyundai Equus Coupe Rendered

When the Hyundai Equus first was shown last year, no one knew whether it would be coming to the United States market. Many speculated that it would remain a Korean-market only vehicle. However, that hasn't been the case. At the time, we mentioned Hyundai doing a coupe version of the model. The styling of the Equus would lend itself perfectly to a coupe, and it could be an inexpensive competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CL (now called the S-Class Coupe) and even the BMW 6-Series. We weren't the only ones to think it is a good idea too, as witnessed by this rendering of what the car could look like. The rendering was done by website This Week In Motors, saying such a car would be able to

Hyundai Introduces Equus Long-Wheelbase, Armored Versions

The Equus first surfaced around the beginning of this year. At the time, most thought it was a vehicle slated for Hyundai's home market of South Korea only. Given Hyundai's relentless drive upward though, it has proved to be much more than that. Hyundai tested reception of the car in our market by displaying it at the New York Auto Show and placing the car in various Hyundai dealerships around the country. One thing that should have came through with all the recent vehicles Hyundai has been launching - they aren't messing around. Most proper luxury sedans in the segment offer two wheelbase lengths available, standard and extended. As such, Hyundai recently let drop images of the the extended wheel-base model of the Equus, dubbed the Equus

Hyundai Sonata Photos Leak Out

Hyundai has been continuing on a relentless drive upmarket, and has met a lot of success doing so. Each model has improved so much with ever passing generation, and entrants like the Azera and Genesis have been met with critical acclaim. This month's sales being up The next leap is set to come with the Equus full-size luxury sedan. For now though, Hyundai is turning to it's mid-size sedan, a crucially important segment for any volume manufacturer. Mercedes-Benz CLS, is that you? No, it's the Hyundai Sonata - but that's what Hyundai wants you to think of when you see the Sonata. There is a clear "inspiration" here from that car, and it's never a bad thing to be compared with the CLS. The CLS started this

Confirmed: Hyundai Equus Coming to U.S

There you have it. For months, Hyundai has been inching towards announcing a U.S release of the Hyundai Equus full-size luxury sedan. It was shown at the New York International Auto Show, and then cars were sent to Hyundai dealers around the country to gauge potential consumer reaction. Apparently it has been quite good, because we now have the official word on the car, direct from Hyundai. Here's the quote from Hyundai's CEO John Krafcik: "It hinged on the Genesis.... if the Genesis did well we could bring the Equus." I guess the Genesis was the forerunner and now that Hyundai has deemed it a success, it is deciding to push the envelope even further. Success of Azera led them to introduce the Genesis, success of the

Hyundai Equus Coming in 2010

Ah, the Hyundai Equus. When I first saw the car in back in February of this year, it wasn't clear whether or not it was destined for the United States market. Hyundai has had Equus models in the past, but has confined sales of them to their home market of South Korea only. Things are definitely not as usual at Hyundai though, with the company moving dramatically upmarket. It was a shocker when Hyundai came out with the Azera, and then they followed with the Genesis. It looks like the Equus could be next in line to "wow" us.  It has been reported in the media that Hyundai's Chairman wants the car to be sold in the United States, and that is a pretty good reason in

Hyundai Equus Caught Live

News about Hyundai's Equus sedan just keeps pouring on out! At this point, I'd be more shocked to hear it's not coming to the United States. A user on Flickr has posted pictures of the Equus, and wow it's nice! Apparently Alex Krafcik, the photographer taking these pictures, got to take pictures of the vehicle inside and out. I wonder how he was able to do that in a residential setting and everything like that? I'm going to have to ask and see! I just want to say though; what a phenomenal job with these pictures. Detail shots, interior shots; everything looks superb. The Equus looks even better in "real life" pictures then it does in automaker-supplied press shots. An upscale design to be sure, it's very upscale

Hyundai Sending 100 Equus Sedans to Dealers

When the new Equus debuted for the Korean market in February , speculation immediately began on whether Hyundai planned to bring the car to the United States. I thought it was likely that Hyundai would attempt to sell the car in the United States. Then, to "gauge reaction" the Equus was displayed at the New York International Auto Show last month. Edmunds' Inside Line and others reported that Hyundai was seriously considering bringing the vehicle to the United States market. Hyundai must have liked what they heard at the auto show, because they are heading further toward a U.S  introduction with this latest move. USAToday reports that Hyundai is shipping 100 Equus models to Hyundai dealers around the country to gain data about how the public would accept such
