RUF Debuts the eRUF Stormster

While Porsche decides whether or not to produce an electric 911, German company RUF Automobile GmbH has taken matters into it's own hands. In October 2008, the company debuted the eRUF "Greenster" 911. They are expanding the eRUF line now with a new model, the Stormster - this time based on the Cayenne. The original, the Greenster is supposedly going into a limited production run says RUF. No Greensters have been delivered yet, but RUF is still intent on getting its next model out there, presumably to gauge interest. The changes start with the exterior - that doesn't look like your usual Cayenne. RUF developed the special body kit that takes cues from the 911, but the electric conversion will be available looking like a standard Cayenne as

VIDEO: VW Multivan vs. Porsche Cayenne

You want crazy? Check out this new video. For all it's faults of not being a "true" Porsche, you have to admit that the Cayenne Turbo S is good at what it does. How about a minivan with similar performance though? That's what German tuning company TH Automobile has aimed for with the VW TH2. They took a Volkswagen T5 Transporter and performed a total performance makeover. TH decided to power the TH2 with a 996 GT2-sourced 560 horsepower, twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six. In a minivan? Yes you heard that right. Check out the video below to see how the TH2 performs. Unfortunately (unless you speak German) you won't be able to understand what they are saying though. As for me? I'd still take the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK3hoQ2TKF0

Porsche CEO: 150,000 Cars a Year

I'm officially confused. There has been two opposing stories that have come out about Porsche's future - one that says the Panamera and Cayenne are done for, and that Porsche is being taken closer to its roots under VW's ownership. That claim is far-fetched at best, given the Cayenne is a relatively good seller and is highly profitable. The Panamera could be a similar profit maker if it sells well. The other says that Porsche is going to not only just keep the current model lineup intact, but add new models as well. But that's not even the whole story of why I'm confused. Are you confused yet about by confusion? Don't worry, I'll clear it up. This is why I am confused:

Shock: Future Of Cayenne, Panamera in Doubt?

The Porsche-VW story has been drama-filled and anything but dull. They should make some sort of documentary out of this! Drama is the key word here. You probably know the story by now - Porsche had embarked on an attempted takeover of Volkswagen, purchasing shares to gain control. The advance ended at just over 50% when world markets started to falter. No one seemed to realize how much debt Porsche was taking on, and long story short, VW is purchasing Porsche. That was a sad occurrence - goodbye to an independent Porsche. However a huge piece of news out of CAR Magazine has turned out to be a huge shock. Porsche's sales growth and high levels of profitability are due in large part to bold moves the

Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake Revealed?

With Porsche's continued drive to increase it's model lineup, there has been a lot of speculation about what is next. Boxster, Cayenne, Panamera - each car got successively harder for Porsche purists to swallow. A 928 GT is rumored to be in the works (which I am 100% in favor of) as well as a Panamera cabriolet. But what about a Cayman shooting brake? Certainly would make an for a unique entry in the sportscar world today. There has been pictures of the car caught on cell-phone cameras but now there is a new picture of the car in clear view. Real or not? Let's take a look. A shooting brake is a 2-door, sporty wagon. Might seem like an oxymoron -  but it doesn't have to be.

Porsche Considering Engine from TT-S For Cheaper Boxster?

With the on-again/off-again, now maybe on-again entry-level Porsche roadster that was rumored to be produced uncertain, it looks like Porsche is considering all options. While Porsche is still making a good amount of money in it's core business selling cars, sales have still been hit by this recession just like everyone else. In particular, sales of the Boxster are down by some 60% for the year 2009. So what is Porsche to do? Why, cut prices of course! How they're might do so is the interesting part. Auto Motor & Sport is reporting that Porsche is considering putting the engine from Audi's TT-RS into the Boxster for an entry level model. Yes, you heard that right - an Audi engine in the Boxster. I think it's more of

Porsche Cayenne Caught Testing

As I've laid out in my recent post on Porsche, the company's recent financial troubles have nothing to do with it's ability to sell automobiles. It is still doing extremely well in per vehicle financial metrics, and is on track to make close to $1 billion this year. That incredible especially for a company of Porsche's size, selling around 90,000 cars.  To help continue that Porsche is launching new models like the Panamera (good luck with that! Ha, I kid) and a next generation model of the company's insanely successful Porsche Cayenne SUV. If the renderings are anything like the real thing, the SUV will look much better than the current model.  The Carrera GT-style headlights wear very well on it. I like it a lot. The best part of the Panamera

Porsche Panamera Production Starts

Well well well, after years of development and much spirited debate production of the Porsche Panamera has started at it's Leizpig factory. The Porsche Cayenne is also produced at the same factory. How fitting, huh? Two extremely controversial vehicles in Porsche's history, both produced at one plant. Oddly enough, these two vehicles may prove to be some of the most successful for Porsche.  Porsche plans to sell 20,000 units per year of the Panamera. We'll see if they hit that goal or not. Definitely pre-recession I think that was a sure thing, I think they still have pretty good chances of hitting their goal anyway, just due to the Porsche name and a desire for a 4-door model from the company. I am looking forward to seeing the Panamera in

250,000th Porsche Cayenne Rolls Off the Line

Wow, 250,000 units! That's a whole lot of Porsche Cayennes! No doubt the car has proved to be a huge success for the small automaker, surely validating the imperative to better position Porsche for the future with more models in it's lineup. 10 years ago would have thought an SUV would be Porsche's best selling vehicle? Or that Porsche would be close to owning the entirety of Volkswagen AG? One thing is clear: a lot has changed since the car's debut in 2002. Vehicle 250,000 illustrates this very well; it is a white, V6 diesel (!) Cayenne destined for Austria. The large amount of buyers in this segment and high asking price has proved to be an explosive formula for Porsche. For some reason I do like the styling of the
