Rendered: Porsche Cajun Artists Impression

ArtistsRenderingPorscheCajunCrossoverFrontView

In late November, the Porsche board officially approved production of a small Porsche crossover. The new crossover is to be called Cajun, as it has been consistently referred to by the automotive press. There have been various reports about the crossover, but most peg it as sharing underpinnings with the Audi Q5. There have been some noises about it being a three-door only model, but it is all just conjecture. What is clear is that Porsche has seen the success of the Cayenne and is looking to replicate it with a smaller model designed to attract younger buyers. We could see the Cajun doing battle against vehicles like the Land Rover Evoque. With a new model inevitable, Team Speed member Wild-Speed has created an artists

Gemballa Introduces Tuning Package for New Porsche Cayenne

GemballaTornadoFrontView

Gemballa is a tuning company located in Leonberg near Stuttgart, Germany. The company primarily specializes in tuning Porsches. Gemballa was a in the news prominently this year when founder Uwe Gemballa went missing and was found dead in October in South Africa. It was reported that he was involved in a money laundering scheme that turned against him. Now the company is introducing its first new product since the incident, based on the redesigned Porsche Cayenne. Gemballa's modifications are pretty significant, far more than just some visual changes and an engine tweak like one from Superchips. Performance SUVS and trucks are a segment that has been increasing strongly, with chips for trucks and SUVs more prevalent than ever. Gemballa is happy to oblige, although for a more

Cayenne Tuning Extreme: Merdad 902 Coupe

Tuners usually specialize in offering something unique and upgraded - and sometimes the wacky and outrageous, particularly at the exotic level (Mansory, anyone?). Porsche's Cayenne certainly has seen its share of tuning. Merdad, a company based in the United Kingdom, is taking things a step beyond simple appearance tweaks to actually do significant reengineering. While we've seen a lot of segment-bending vehicles lately, this is the first time we've seen a Cayenne called a "coupe." Two-door crossovers/SUVs are an interesting genre to say the least. It looks pretty cool, despite being kind of pointless - but hey that's what these things are all about right? Merdad has this to say about the project:  "We are very proud that this creation has brought together many British engineers and

Porsche Announces Cayenne Pricing

Porsche is in the midst of introducing an important new model and redesigning a pivotal one. The new Panamera, like it or loathe it, has become the top-selling Porsche in the United States. But it isn't likely to keep its title for long, as the redesigned Cayenne is on the way. Buyers are likely holding off on purchasing the existing model while waiting for the new one. Porsche has released full pricing information for the Cayenne, and the figures look good. The Cayenne also is better in a very important measure - looks. And despite getting a bit larger (but looking visually smaller), the Cayenne sheds 400 pounds in comparison to the previous model. Not only that though, the base model starts starts at $46,700, nearly $2,000 less. Not

Porsche Cuts Canadian Prices

Price cuts are always good for consumers. Lately, a lot of incentives have been thrown around in the marketplace in the form of low financing and rebates. Toyota in particular has been racheting them up, along with a big advertising campaign, in a bid to increase sales in the face of the unintended acceleration controversy. Price cuts are a different thing though, and they are coming to a brand that usually (make that never) sees them -Porsche. Let's just just call it a stimulus for the rich. The strength of the Canadian dollar has led Porsche to reduce prices on it's lineup in the country - by about two percent overall. The Porsche Boxster  now comes in at $55,600 ($55,467 U.S.) vs. $59,600 ($59,457 U.S.), and the Cayenne at $54,200

Geneva 2010: Porsche Cayenne

One of the most emblematic and landmark vehicles of the previous decade has no doubt been the Porsche Cayenne. Porsche purists moaned and complained about its introduction, saying a Porsche emblem could never rightfully grace an SUV. Years later, the debate still rages. What cannot be debated, however, is the incredible success that it has had. With it, Porsche has grown in volume and profit margins. Nearly a year ago, the 250,000th Cayenne was built at the company's Leizpig factory, which is also now home to production of another controversial vehicle, the Panamera. The updates to the current Porsche Cayenne have not been appealing in this writers opinion. The original Cayenne was no doubt handsome, but the refresh it received took away from that a bit. We're think that the

New Cayenne Spotted On Porsche’s Site

A refreshed version of the Porsche Cayenne is coming - the SUV so derided by Porsche purists but essential to the brand's continued global sales push. The Cayenne's sister vehicle, the Touareg, has already been shown ahead of Geneva and it is looking very good. Now it is the Cayenne's turn, and we get an early glimpse at it thanks to a screen shot capture. An intrepid reader of Motor Authority is to thank for this early reveal. Porsche's website has its full lineup, and in place of the current Cayenne was the new model. Is it on purpose by Porsche to build buzz, a mistake, or a chop? We'll go with the second option - its a mistake, and it is real - the

The Worst 10 Performance Cars of 2009

Eclipse

Top Ten lists are a longstanding tradition with automotive journalism outlets. And why not?  People love a Top Ten list (it gives them something to argue about!), and man, they're not exactly hard to throw together.  The issue is that the vast majority of them are fluff, crap, really just a slap on the back to whichever manufacturer schmoozed that rag the most that year. ('’) Well we here at CarThrottle don't subscribe to that happy, shiny version of things.  To be honest, a large number of the cars on our roads are complete, total junk.  This has always been obvious.  The world's full of Chrysler Sebrings and Kia Amantis.  But there are even cars trying to pass as performance vehicles (which is a heavy focus

RUF Debuts the eRUF Stormster

While Porsche decides whether or not to produce an electric 911, German company RUF Automobile GmbH has taken matters into it's own hands. In October 2008, the company debuted the eRUF "Greenster" 911. They are expanding the eRUF line now with a new model, the Stormster - this time based on the Cayenne. The original, the Greenster is supposedly going into a limited production run says RUF. No Greensters have been delivered yet, but RUF is still intent on getting its next model out there, presumably to gauge interest. The changes start with the exterior - that doesn't look like your usual Cayenne. RUF developed the special body kit that takes cues from the 911, but the electric conversion will be available looking like a standard Cayenne as

VIDEO: VW Multivan vs. Porsche Cayenne

You want crazy? Check out this new video. For all it's faults of not being a "true" Porsche, you have to admit that the Cayenne Turbo S is good at what it does. How about a minivan with similar performance though? That's what German tuning company TH Automobile has aimed for with the VW TH2. They took a Volkswagen T5 Transporter and performed a total performance makeover. TH decided to power the TH2 with a 996 GT2-sourced 560 horsepower, twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six. In a minivan? Yes you heard that right. Check out the video below to see how the TH2 performs. Unfortunately (unless you speak German) you won't be able to understand what they are saying though. As for me? I'd still take the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK3hoQ2TKF0
