RWD Cadillac Flagship Back On?

Rejoice! Is there some thinking going on at General Motors and Cadillac? If a new report from Motor Trend is to be believed, then there actually is! Recent news has said Cadillac was developing a replacement for the DTS and STS, to be named XTS and based on the same FWD platform as the Opel Insignia. I had hoped that wasn't the case. It just makes no sense for what Cadillac is supposed to be and stand for, especially with a resurgent Buick in the equation now. But, I knew from GM anything was possible. Before this recent news about a XTS, GM was planning to produce a Cadillac flagship based on Holden's Zeta platform. Zeta underpins the Pontiac G8 and Chevrolet Camaro here in the United

Lutz: CTS-V Coupe Coming

While Bob Lutz dashed a lot of hopes about a RWD Chevrolet Caprice sedan, he did offer an important confirmation of new product for Cadillac. The CTS is one of the most impressive vehicles in it's segment, and the V-Series performance version has been billed as the world's most powerful performance sedan. Until recently (and it isn't confirmed for certain as of yet) it has held the title for world's fastest production sedan around Germany's Nurburgring race track. With variants of the CTS sedan complete, a coupe CTS is going on sale next year, after being shown at the Detroit Auto Show in concept form. With the incredible performance capabilities of the CTS-V sedan, why not extend that to the coupe as well? It deserves it! Despite the seemingly obvious answer to us, it wasn't certain whether or not the model would

Panamera Beats CTS-V Around the Nurburgring?

The automaker that currently holds the title for fastest production sedan around Germany's Nurburgring race track may surprise you. The answer is Cadillac, with the supercar-like CTS-V that lapped the track in a record 7:59 minutes. Cadillac worked long and hard on the CTS-V to achieve that goal and it's amazing that they got to it. But now it looks as if Porsche may have beaten that record, if a report from Germany's Sport Auto is to be believed. Three seconds. That's the how much faster the Panamera Turbo is around the track, according to Auto Sport. Now Porsche hasn't confirmed this - if it's true you better believe they will. It'll be a number they'll want to trumpet. There's a few things that seem funny about this

Cadillac DTS Replacement

The current DTS is getting long in the tooth, and it never was really an active part of Cadillac's renaissance that began with the CTS. It did get an update in 2006 that somewhat helped to align it with the rest of Cadillac's lineup, but that didn't help to bring it into contention outside it's core audience. As such, rumors have been swirling for the past year or more about what it's replacement will be. Most have them have centered on Cadillac dropping both the STS and DTS models for a new model, likely to be dubbed XTS. Now a new report has come out that says the car will be based on the Opel Insignia. What? Yes, you heard that right. To me, I think this is
