“Barn” Find Of The Century: 1925 Bugatti Type 22 Brescia

Just how far would you go to restore a car? Would you dive to the bottom of a frickin' lake and haul an old wreck of a car just to resurrect it like Lazarus? You would, or at least I would, if it was a 1925 Bugatti. And that's just what some total nut jobs, er, I mean, dedicated gearheads will be doing. When I was a little kid, my dad found a Kaiser Darrin in barn (no, literally in a barn) that was all there, but needed to be gone through and completely restored. Let me just put it this way: There was hay in the engine compartment. But by the time he got through with it (my dad, being a tool and die maker

New Pictures: Bugatti 16C Galibier

It has been a little while since we've heard about the Bugatti 16C Galibier. The car was introduced at its own private event last year after Frankfurt, with Bugatti head Franz-Josef Paefgen stating the reason as him not liking to see cars at auto shows that weren't in the works to be built. We agree, especially when cars like the Bugatti 16C Galibier aren't built. The good news is that it seems as if the 16C Galibier will be produced. For one, we've heard rumors about a greenlight. Secondly, time is ticking on Bugatti's ability to keep extending the Veyron run with new special editions - a new model is clearly needed. Thirdly, the company has decided to release more pictures of the car months later

New Bugatti 16C Galibier Images

Last we heard about the Bugatti 16C Galibier, rumor had it that it was given the greenlight for production. The car is currently being shown at private Bugatti events where former (and future) customers, dealers and "opinion makers" are shown the vehicle. The latest place it has turned up is at the Ace Gallery in Beverly Hills, California. As can be expected, Bugatti does things is much different than other automakers - when you're building limited run, $1,500,000 cars you better make sure there is a market for them. Three Bugatti concepts are supposedly in the running for production. The 16C Galibier is the only one we've seen - the fact that they have released it to the public should be a strong sign of production intent. Also, from

Bugatti 16C Galibier Given Green Light?

It hasn't been very long since the first images of the Bugatti 16C Galibier sedan surfaced from a private Bugatti event in Molsheim, France. The rumor mill is already swirling that the car has been given the go ahead for production. Supposedly the car is among three concepts that Bugatti has created to show customers and dealers. Based on feedback from those groups, the company will decide on which one to build. I think it's safe to say the 16C Galibier is the heavy favorite of the three though, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the fact that they have chosen to show us pictures and give it a release is a big indication. Secondly, a rumored top speed of around 220 mph would enable Bugatti to claim the title

VIDEO: Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept

Ah, the Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept. The on-again/off-again Bugatti sedan that rumors have swirled about for quite some time. It wasn't shown at Frankfurt, but instead given it's own introduction. The head of Bugatti Franz-Josef Paefgen said he didn't like seeing cars at auto shows, only to have them not be built. So, given that Bugatti isn't sure about the 16C Galibier, it wasn't shown at one. Makes sense, right? If you've researched the 16C Galibier, you'd know that it is not a guaranteed production model. The way Bugatti does things is different than other automakers - it is a design concept (one of three) being shown to clients and dealers testing the waters for a production run. As I've speculated about before though, Bugatti is going to need

2010 Bugatti 16 C Galibier

So, it looks like Bugatti is finally going to be going ahead with that sedan they've been speaking about in hushed tones forever. For the past century or so, rumors have said the thing will be called the Boudreaux, and that it would feature a tuned-down version of the Veyron drivetrain. Finally, although not officially, the big Bugatti sedan, now to be called the Bugatti 16 C Galibier, has been revealed. Appropriately enough, the car was given a preview in Molshiem, France, the ancestral home of Bugattis (before they became, essentially, uber-VWs all dressed in sang blu). To call the car striking might be a bit of an understatement. It has a big, heavy road presence, even in photographs. Bugatti says the big sedan, which should hit

Supercar Sightings: Bugatti Veyron Dealer Visit

One of the things I like about my "real" job is that I get to travel a bit within the US, and have spent many trips in LA. Last time on my way out, I was perusing through the latest edition of DuPont Registry, or Playboy for car nerds, when I saw that there was a Bugatti dealership located not too far away from where I was staying. Well, it turns out I had a free morning, so I decided to point the rental car in the direction of the dealership on the off chance that I could cast my eyes on probably the most insane car ever made. After several miles of LA traffic, I pulled up onto Olympic Ave and into O'Gara Coach Company, who have

Bugatti Bordeaux Not Coming To Frankfurt

Aw, man - of true, this news is a real disappointment. I've been covering Bugatti and any news about an upcoming model quite extensively over the past few months. Bordeaux, Royale, Type 12 Streamliner; 2-door 4-seat Veyron replacement, sedan - regardless of what it is or what it's called, a new model was supposed to be coming. Furthering that was a teaser leaked from a Bugatti invitation. After release of the picture, the name "Bordeaux" surfaced and the automotive media began referring to it as such, saying the launch date was on track for Frankfurt. TheCarConnection says that is no longer the case. Supposedly the leaked image is indeed from an invitation to see the concept vehicle at a private event in Molsheim, France. There, potential clients

Bugatti Sedan Image Leaks

The Frankfurt International Auto Show in September promises to bring a lot of exciting new releases. If everything goes to plan, many important new vehicles (like the Saab 9-5) will be making an appearance. Likely to be one of those is the rumored Bugatti sedan model. A picture has leaked out on the internet of the rear end of the vehicle. It actually came as part of Bugatti's invitation to the anniversary celebration it is having. Of course it is still possible it could just be a succesor to the Veyron, but I'd say that's unlikely at this point. It now has a name too: Bordeaux. (Like the candy! Ha). It is rumored to be a shooting brake - if you've seen the Bugatti concept vehicle that was produced in

Look at a Retro 6-Series: RZ-M6

I'm a big fan of Racer X Design's renderings. They've completed some designs that have actually been built, in addition to looks at potential future vehicles like the Bugatti Type 12 Streamliner I've used in previous articles as an example of a future Bugatti sedan. Apparently I missed their latest design that come out back in January, so thought it might be interesting to cover it. Now,  Racer X Designs have come out with their unique take on a new style of BMW 6-series that could be based on the existing model. While I highly doubt BMW would be inclined to take a road like this for production, it's style certainly is  something to think about in terms of a possible high-end model for the brand in the future.
