BMW Unveils 6-series Gran Coupe

6gc-4

We're at the point now where a 4-door "Coupe" isn't weird.  I suppose.  Passat CC, two generations of the Mercedes CLS, we'll call anything a coupe.  So here's the latest: the four-door version of BMW's 6-series coupe.  My Coupe runneth over.  So what's the deal with the 6-Series Gran Coupe? Well, it's a four-door version 0f BMW's third-generation 6-series.  Or, it's a 5-series with a lower roof line.  Or, it's a BMW CLS.  Some have been wondering why companies bother making these types of cars, and others have been wondering what took BMW so long to make a CLS clone.  I fall into the latter camp; Merc sells a good number of the swoopy CLS, so it's a no-brainer that BMW would follow suit. BMW's styling

1988 BMW M6 Test Drive

IMG_9597

One must maintain perspective when driving an old car.  You hear legends and stories about how great something was, but you have to remember that it was during the time period it was around those legends accumulated.  Best example of this: old school muscle cars from the 60's.  Sure, they're cool, and back in the day they were some of the fastest things with wheels and license plates.  But if you lined up a Chevelle SS396 with a 4-speed against a brand new, stock 2.0L Volkswagen GTI, it would get it's lunch handed to it.  This is perspective, and it's important to keep. So when I was given the opportunity to slide behind the wheel of a 1988 BMW M6, sure I was excited.  It's one

Car Spotting In LA: Heritage Classics Motorcar Company

IMG_8983

Right across the street from Charles Agapiou Bentley/Rolls Royce on Santa Monica Blvd is the kind of dealership you could just stand and drool in for a while.  Heritage Classics is exactly what it says on the label: a purveyor of high-end desirable classics parked wall to wall.  Unlike a lot of classic dealers, this one didn't seem to specialize in one marque or even genre: there was everything from a classic Porsche 356 to a Cadillac Eldorado.  But what lured me in the door first was this... A Ferrari 330GTC, what I think is probably the prettiest front-engine V12 Ferrari ever made.  Styling by Pininfarina, a 4.0L Colombo V12 breathing through six carbs up front, a five-speed, two seats and independent suspension.  The

Top 10 Modern Sales Failures Part II

TBird-3

In Part 1 of this article, I covered 5 recent sales failures of the automotive world.  This time we dive into some more odd, idiotic, or just misjudged cars.  Onto the list... 5) Lincoln Blackwood

Luxury Pickup Truck.  That should be a contradictory term.  Pickup trucks are made to haul things, do work, go off-road: these are not luxurious attributes.  A Luxury Pickup Truck is a fairly stupid idea.  Yet, ask Cadillac: people buy stupid.  In their case, Escalade EXT's: an Escalade with a pickup bed.  Considering this is just a Chevrolet Avalanche (admittedly a pretty clever, if ugly, pickup truck) with some Cadillac trim glued on and a larger price tag, they sell quite a lot of them.  Sales were their highest in

A Mix of Classical Music and Horsepower

Synfonica2

Form67.net makes some of the coolest videos on YouTube.  They mix art and automobiles better than most of the pretentious fish-eye-lens-and-Supra crowd out there.  Their videos are always worth a few minutes of your time. This new one, "Mechanical Synfonica" is pretty awesome as well.  It combines beautiful women, an Audi RS5 and an E92 M3 battling on a mountain road, and a Symphony.  If nothing else, it'll make you smile for five minutes (and four seconds.)  Check it out:

Not a huge fan of a Rieger body kit on an M3, but the scene where the M3 and the RS5 both pull out of the gravel with wheels spinning more than makes up for it in my eyes.  And the contrast of

2015 Jaguar Cub

Jaguar-Concepts-7111111955138381600x1060

The Jaguar product range is a bit limited compared to BMW, Mercedes and Audi. However Jaguar have revealed to Autocar their plans for a new small saloon. It's not a compact executive rival for the 3 Series and A4 as anticipated though, it's actually a rival for cars that aren't even on the road yet. Let me explain what I'm on about, at the Geneva Motor Show back in March Audi revealed an A3 saloon concept which is slightly longer than an A3 hatch but smaller than an A4 saloon and Mercedes have done a rival to this called the CLC saloon which is basically a B Class with a stretched wheelbase but both of these cars are just concepts at the moment. Now Jaguar

BMW Debuts Limited M3 Coupe Competition Edition

M3CC-3

BMW isn't quite as special-edition happy with the M3 as Porsche is with their cars, but they're getting closer.  They introduced another limited-edition version of the M3 today, limited to 40 units total in the US called the Coupe Competition Edition. Built to celebrate the M Division's upcoming 40th birthday (40 years already?  Really?), the Competition Coupe is a number of visual changes along with a bit of extra hardware.  The paint is a special "Frozen Silver Metallic," similar to the M3 Frozen Gray special edition from last year, but a little lighter.  This semi-matte-finish color looks simply amazing in pictures; hopefully it won't be as hard to maintain as the Frozen Gray is.  Black hood ducts, and dark chrome kidney grills, side grills and exhaust

Top 5 Superkids & Supergrannies In Supercars

11-year-old-audi-r8

Some amazing footage has been seen on the famous video uploading website since it went live in 2005. YouTube contains a vast library of clips ranging from front-line breaking news videos such as natural disasters or serious crime to the most ridiculous content such as a drunk guy being catapulted over a pool by a homemade human slingshot or a cat singing. There are loads of car videos up there too, including those from Car Throttle's YouTube Channel. You could watch someone set a lap time around the Nurburgring or you could watch an 'up close and personal' tour of luxury motors and supercars. Here are 5 YouTube videos I came across that show it is possible for anyone to drive a high performance car nowadays whether they are 5

Car Cameo: Mini Cooper ft. Labrinth – Earthquake

Mini Countryman - Labrinth Tinie Tempah Earthquake

On the back of Mini getting brand placement time in Taio Cruz' latest video "Hangover", the historic German company appear to be continuing to spread their seed all over the industry. Whether it's Jamaican reggae-inspired beats in Sean Paul or certain big-name American producers in Timbaland, the dynamic company is trying to gain mass market appeal and visibility-wise, the strategy certainly seems to be paying off. It's no wonder then that Mini felt the need to strike a deal with Sony Music and the mastermind himself, Simon Cowell, in getting a Cooper onto the set of Labrinth's latest video "Earthquake". Just in case you've been out of the loop, Labrinth recently got himself signed to SyCo and Cowell's notorious record label which also houses the

New Lexus Hot Hatch, Almost

fsportct2

With the introduction of the LFA last year, you might think that Lexus would start to make hot versions of their current line-up. So far the only sporty Lexus since the LFA has been the IS-F, but last week Lexus announced you can now order a new range topping version of their compact luxury hybrid called the CT200h F-Sport. The disappointing news is that the new CT F-Sport will not be any faster or more powerful than the standard car since there has been no change to the engine. The F-Sport will have the same 1.8L petrol unit teamed with an electric motor and a CVT gearbox, just like a Prius, that goes from standstill to 62mph in 10.3 seconds, which is not hot
