Detroit 2012: Lexus LF-LC Concept Is Drool-Worthy

Lexus-LF-LC-side

Before a certain Mr. LFA was born, a typical Lexus owner would have been pushing 50 years old. A fact probably unsurprising given that all Lexus built a short while back were three saloons; small, medium, large and a convertible to top it off. All were quiet, comfortable, peaceful and they weren't in your face. To then improve their product range, the folks in Toyota City decided to add the same hybrid technology as Toyota's Prius into their cars to make one of the first 4x4 hybrids on the market. However just talking about the not-so-distant past of Lexus induces yawning from your good author. The future, on the other hand, looks very exciting indeed. 2009 saw the first IS-F, a 5.0L V8

The Other Other Benz: 2012 Volkswagen CC

cc front

One of the best niche body styles out there has to be the four-door coupe. First invented by Mercedes back in 2004, the idea was to make a car that looks as elegant as the CL but gives it the practicality and comfort of the E-Class and the resulting car was dubbed the CLS. There have been others since from Team Germany such as the Audi A7 and the up and coming BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. They're great if you have executive car money but what if you're bored of your humble Passat? The people's car manufacturer had this problem in mind when they created the Passat CC back in 2008 and now there's a new one. This time they've ditched the 'P' word for us

BMW Unveils 6-series Gran Coupe

6gc-4

We're at the point now where a 4-door "Coupe" isn't weird.  I suppose.  Passat CC, two generations of the Mercedes CLS, we'll call anything a coupe.  So here's the latest: the four-door version of BMW's 6-series coupe.  My Coupe runneth over.  So what's the deal with the 6-Series Gran Coupe? Well, it's a four-door version 0f BMW's third-generation 6-series.  Or, it's a 5-series with a lower roof line.  Or, it's a BMW CLS.  Some have been wondering why companies bother making these types of cars, and others have been wondering what took BMW so long to make a CLS clone.  I fall into the latter camp; Merc sells a good number of the swoopy CLS, so it's a no-brainer that BMW would follow suit. BMW's styling

BMW 6-Series Coupe Gets Captured In New Spy Shots

BMW6-SeriesCoupeSpyShot

While we've seen it for quite sometime, the new BMW 6-Series Convertible made its official debut at the North American International Auto Show earlier this month. Pricing information for it and the newest addition to the BMW M lineup was recently announced as well. The car was first previewed at the Paris Auto Show in the form of the 6-Series Coupe Concept. With that car, we proclaimed the return of good-looking BMWs. The styling language prior to Bangle was nearly perfect in our eyes, and it is slowly being phased out to a place closer to that look. With the Coupe concept previewing a production model, it seemed natural we would see the coupe come first. However, the convertible is set to hit the market first. New

BMW Releases Additional Photos of New 650i Convertible

BMW 6-Series Convertible

In September, BMW previewed its next-generation 6-Series with the 6-Series Concept that debuted at the Paris Auto Show. Spyshots of the 6-Series Convertible came out quickly after, and before the LA International Auto Show BMW released some photographs. The car's official debut will be taking place at the North American International Auto Show next month. Interestingly, the car will debut as a convertible model first rather than a coupe. That is an unusual debut process as usually coupes are the first to debut. The car shows off BMW's much-improved design language that takes the car back to a place similar to where BMW was before the Bangle-era designs came out. In fact, the 6-Series Coupe led us to proclaim that good-looking BMWs are back. The BMW

2012 BMW 6-Series Convertible Caught Without Camoflage

The Paris Auto Show that just completed had more than a few surprises - the Audi Quattro Concept, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento and Lotus' amazing five-car introduction binge. Another one of them was the BMW 6-Series Coupe Concept. We thought it offered a nearly -production preview of the 6-Series to come. It looks like that is the case, as a convertible variant of the car has been spotted. Looks pretty production to us. E90Post got the scoop and Autobild tweaked with the photo, lightening it and removing the photographer. With a camera man there, it is clear this is a photo shoot for the new production model. Interestingly, E90Post says all the press photography for the car has been taken - instead this for a

Videos: BMW Releases 6-Series Concept Footage, MT Compares ZR1 and Porsche 911 Turbo,

Upon seeing the BMW 6-Series Concept, CarThrottle was happy to announce the return of good-looking BMWs. The 7-Series and 5-Series sedans weren't flukes -and in fact the 6-Series is the best of the bunch. It is good to see the traditional gran turismo coupe alive at BMW, and it bodes well for the upcoming four-door Gran Coupe. To show off the new 6-Series, BMW made two new videos of the new coupe. Action packed they are not - but its great to see the car inside and out from a variety of angles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wod7-9GABs4&feature=player_embedded#! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm0A94ycMvI&feature=player_embedded Motor Trend Compares Chevrolet ZR1 and Porsche 911 Turbo Throughout the storied history of the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911 model lines, the two have been pitted against each other. Paris 2010: 6-Series Coupe Concept Proves Good Looking BMWs are Back

It is clear that the last-generation of BMWs wasn't well received stylistically by the automotive press, and by a lot of consumers as well. However, as we've said before, that didn't prove to be a damper to the brand's success, as more BMWs were sold than ever before. However, we would surmise that was likely in spite of their styling, not because of it. Anyhow, BMW has seen the error of its ways and is returning to a styling path similar to the one it was on before the Chris Bangle detour. The 7-Series, 5-Series GT and new 5-Series are all much improved. The Gran Coupe Concept really sealed the deal, and now comes the Concept 6-Series. The 6-Series Concept wears the "concept" title, but it is little more

BMW Gran Coupe Approved for Production

While Mercedes-Benz is prepping to introduce the next-generation of its highly successful CLS sedan, competitors are just getting into the game. Yes, there has been copycats like the Volkswagen CC and even the Hyundai Sonata, but there has yet to be a true luxury competitor for the CLS emerge. Audi is hoping to change that on Monday with the introduction of the Sportback. At the Beijing Auto Show, BMW showed a four-door coupe concept dubbed the Gran Coupe. Now, production has been confirmed. It seemed a bit of a no brainer that it would be produced, especially given the Gran Coupe's production-ready look, but you never know for sure. It is also interesting that the news comes just ahead of rival Audi's four-door coupe launch. The news has

Crash: Audi R8, BMW 6-Series and a Land Rover

What is it with the high-end cars crashing this week? First the Bugatti Veyron crashing into a lake, next a Ferrari California into construction equipment and then a Aston Martin DB9 crashing into a tree. The Audi R8 has been pegged as a more affordable exotic, and while it might not be up there with Lamborghinis and Ferraris, it certainly is a desired car by enthusiasts. This  one is rare - the crash involves a red R8, a BMW 6-Series and a Range Rover on Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa, California. Apparently the Audi R8 hit into the Range Rover and was hit from behind by the BMW 6-Series. The Range Rover involved in the incident wasn't photographed. Very bizarre to say the least!
