I get the feeling from reading this article that you and I have diametrically opposed views as to what is good and bad in a Saab (or any car)!

A Saab built on ANY GM base is a mistake at this point.
The only way this company can survive and be worth my loyalty again is to be separated entirely from GM.

There was a time when Saab was leading the way in innovation.

This seems like repackaging.

James great pics and a very informative article, was fun to read, which gives me a better appreciation for the 9-5. I hope Saab is successful in marketing this vehicle, they offer a a lot of options that should appeal to wide demographic.

RDGelzer - I remember that motor - was it in a 9000 or a 9-5?

Anyway, I'd imagine they're using the same direct injection setup currently in use with the GM LNF four cylinder turbo motor that sees duty under the hood of the Cobalt and HHR SS, as well as the Solstice GXP and Sky Redline. It uses a camshaft-driven DI system running at a 9.2:1 CR (on 93 octane) and at least in SS trim makes 260bhp/260lb-ft of torque. I can't believe they didn't simply put it in the 9-3 when it came out, but whatever. For more information on the LNF, check out the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Family_II_engine#LNF

I really hope the NG95 is enough to save Saab... I'm certainly pulling for them and I'm glad you are too!

Nice to read a review with a good amount of focus on the mechanical aspects. My type of info.

....and GO SAAB! :-)

I'm just loving this car. It's completely modern and feature-rich, but the design is still obviously Saab. This car seems to be more born from jets than any other Saab model of the past.

Perhaps there will be a Viggen? Black-on-black-on-black. Hotness.

Anyone know whose direct injection system they're using? Back in about 1999 they were showing an XV8 with VVT, turbo, and direct injection using Orbital's advanced low-pressure DI system.
