Saab 9-5 Wagon Images Leak Out
It seems like everything about the Saab 9-5 takes a long time – the last generation was around forever and we’ve been hearing about this new generation model for quite some time. It wasn’t even clear if it was even going to be produced or not at all.
Recently, Saab released pricing information for the car, with the 9-5 Aero coming in at around the $50,000 mark. Now, new images have leaked of the wagon model.
This isn’t the first time this has happened either. The rendering shows a similar design to what we’ve seen before. In other words, just about the coolest wagon around.
It isn’t clear where this image came from, but it looks legitimate. Could a Saab 9-5 estate (SportCombi here in the United States) be just around the corner? All indications are pointing toward yes. Lets just hope they don’t take as long introducing the 9-5 wagon as they have the 9-5.

Leave us hope the new jet stirs sufficient souls to command a $50K price tag. I love the 9-5. The 9-5 estate looks equally stunning (if not less true to the old school profile), but there comes a point when you have to think about who your target demographic IS and is HOPED to be.
Offer a $50K Saab built on a ruddy GM platform and people will balk.
Offer a $30K Saab on a ruddy GM platform and the young, urban types who championed the salvation of Saab a short while back will walk onto the lots…
I agree! $50K is steep, I’m hoping the new 9-5 will be able to attract enough buyers at that price to keep Saab afloat. Maybe all the Saab fans out there have been awakened now and it will do well? I’m not sure. It is a conundrum though for Saab’s new owners – finding the right balance between profit and volume.
I know what you mean, Tony. Seeing as how the 9-5 is something of a flagship for the Saab marque, I wonder if they might apply similar, exceptional styling to a new 9-3 with a price point just in the mid- to upper-$30K range. Maybe they could offer a 9-1 “Sonnet” to compete in the A3, Mini, MiTo, 500, Fiesta, Colt market starting under $20K? That would be an instant hit.
Like you said though. Profit/volume.
Just makes me nervous to see them only having one egg in the basket and it being priced on a premium level while there’s still so much GM content, ya know?
