RUF Debuts the eRUF Stormster

While Porsche decides whether or not to produce an electric 911, German company RUF Automobile GmbH has taken matters into it’s own hands. In October 2008, the company debuted the eRUF “Greenster” 911.

They are expanding the eRUF line now with a new model, the Stormster – this time based on the Cayenne.

The original, the Greenster is supposedly going into a limited production run says RUF. No Greensters have been delivered yet, but RUF is still intent on getting its next model out there, presumably to gauge interest.

The changes start with the exterior – that doesn’t look like your usual Cayenne. RUF developed the special body kit that takes cues from the 911, but the electric conversion will be available looking like a standard Cayenne as well.

The electric motor in the Stormster is good for 367 horsepower, the same figure as the Greenster. With lithium batteries from Li-Tec (the first manufacturer of lithium ion battery cells in Europe) the Stormster weighs 5900 pounds says the company, giving it a 0 to 62 mph time of 10 seconds.

Top speed is about 93 miles per hour (150 km/h) and range on a full charge is said to come in at around 125 miles (200 km/h). The Stormster is set to make its public debut at the European Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, being shown frm December 7th to 18th.
