Next-Gen Volvo S60 Rendered
A replacement for the aging Volvo S60 is coming. Volvo has already unveiled a dramatic new concept that previews the car’s styling. Given that the car is supposed to be unveiled for model year 2010, it’s surprising we haven’t seen or heard any more about the vehicle.
Broken embargoes – Volvo releasing images to quell the excitement surrounding the new 9-5? Nope. MotorAuthorityhas commissioned a rendering though that is supposedly a preview of the car to come.
I’m not impressed – the S60 Concept’s looks don’t get watered down very well. It somehow manages to look much less dynamic. I’ll be disappointed if the S60 looks like this. Some cars just don’t make the concept to production transition well, for Volvo’s sake lets hope that doesn’t prove to be the case with the S60.
Of course, this is just a rendering and not an official image. The XC60, the S60′s crossover counterpart, is very stylish and everything it has needed to be. I’m confident Volvo will follow that up with a sedan mode. It’s imperative that they do so as the new S60 needs to be a successful volume seller.
The S60 concept was quite stylish, with a coupe-like roofline similar to the XF and an aggressive profile. Of course, some elements won’t make it to production (like the suicide doors) but the overall look should be a good preview of the production car. We’ll see soon enough I guess!

Tony, I agree with your take on this newest proposed Volvo, it basically looks typical, like any other car on the road. Traditionally what set Volvo apart from most manufactors is that their cars did look different, you could see a Volvo and say thats a Volvo. With this its like a Acura, Hyundaii Genesis, Lexux, Toyota, etc…
What in the hell is that white monstrosity. I’m hoping the subtle, mongoloid tendencies coming through in that design are the result of a rushed rendering. I’m hoping they aren’t really going to make a new car that looks like the old one drank the water down in Mexico and is now cross-eyed with the pain of dysentery or something.
Damn.
If Volvo wants to mix things up a bit, I’m fine with that! They make great cars. I think they need to return to their rear wheel drive roots and quit this wrong wheel drive nonsense, but they make great cars. I say, look back to the 1800 and make something stunning.
