New Opel Corsa Color Race A Rallye Kadett For 2010

This could be fun. Opel is rolling out a new version of its Corsa hot hatch that has a lot of styling cues that hark back to the 1970s Rallye Kadett B Sprint. It doesn’t have the full rack of fog, driving and cornering lights (which is very much to my taste) but it does have a few things going for it.

No, and very sadly, the Corsa Color Race’s upgrades, unlike that of the original Rallye Kadett B Sprint, offers no performance enhancements, only cosmetic upgrades. But hey, at least it’s a start, and that’s what the aftermarket is there for, right?

When you buy a Color Race, the little the three-door comes in one of three exterior finishes: Sunny Melon Yellow, Casablanca White and Magma Red. Whichever of those three you choose, they all come with a standard black hood, side and tailgate appliqués with a checkered flag motif (sporty!), black painted roof and black 17-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Opel Corsa Color Race special edition includes matching color highlights like special seat stitching and vent bezels, which is sort of reminiscent of the MINI or the Chrysler PT Cruiser. There’s also a Panorama sunroof and a leather-clad steering wheel inside the Opel Corsa Color Race.

Under the bonnet of the Color Race is the same set of mills as the other 2010 Corsa models. There are two 1.4-liter gasoline units (which are new for this model year), that put out 87HP or 100HP. There is a hotter 1.7-liter CDTI turbo diesel that cranks out 130HP (yes, it would seem the oil-burner is the hot engine choice). The diesel, by the way, gets you a combined fuel consumption of 4.5-liter per 100 km or 52.3 mpg US. Impressive.

The pricing in Germany starts at €15,560, which, by today’s exchange rates, is approximately US$22,500, or dirt cheap, if you think about it. Now if you were to throw in a few grand of aftermarket parts at the Opel Corsa Color Race, it could be pretty interesting.
