In recent times before the economic crisis (and even faring pretty well through it), high-end luxury automakers like Rolls-Royce and Bentley have done very well. Daimler wanted to jump in on that lucrative market and field an entry against competitors BMW and Volkswagen. Out of that, Maybach was born.
Since its introduction, the car hasn’t exactly been a sales success. The fact that it uses a name nobody really knew of before and that it looks far too similar to the S-Class (an excellent product on its own merits) couldn’t have helped.
Rumors have swirled about the brand being cancelled. It would come as a humiliating defeat for Daimler. Regardless, new models have continued to be released. They include the convertible Landaulet and this new model line called Zeppelin.
The car is priced from around 406,000 euros (around $607K USD at current exchange rates) for the 57 model and from 473,200 ($707K) for the larger 62 model that is pictured.
The Zeppelin model includes 20 inch dark chrome rims, Zeppelin badging, different leather upholstery (“California beige” with “Stromboli black” stitching), dark piano lacquer wood trim, silver champagne flutes and a “highly sophisticated perfume atomiser.”
The dispenser was specially developed by “aroma experts”. The paint is also different on the Zeppelin, with a special two-tone combination that utilizes a different color along the beltline (which is an effect I quite like).
The interior doesn’t look too impressive though – Rolls-Royce Phantom, Bentley Mulsanne > Maybach Zeppelin. Power has been increased by 28 horsepower for a total of 640. See if the changes are an improvement yourself in the pictures below.
