Spy Shots: BMW 1-Series M?

Over the past few months we have been hearing about the possibility of a high-performance 1-Series model. Both from rumors and from comments from BMW themselves. Kay Segler, the head of BMW’s M division, said that the priority at the company was for new M models to slot below the M3. X1 M? No, they're talking about the 1-Series. Originally, it seemed as if the new model would be coming after the next-generation 1-Series launches. However, that is not the case as work is being done the car as we speak, for a quick launch. Autoblog has captured these photos, so head over there to check out all the images. The main debate is over what the new model will be called. M1 has been ruled out

Infiniti M Spotted Live

At last month's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Infiniti showed off the new 2011 M Sedan in an interesting way. Instead of an actual vehicle, a clay model with sophisticated video mapping projection technology was used. This virtual rollout carried through in the M's promotional photos released by Infiniti, which were computer generated. The actual vehicle has yet to be seen - until now. For the automotive companies (who actually want to hide something, that is) the ever-present Brenda Priddy & Co spy photography team has got to make life difficult. LeftlaneNews says these models were stumbled over unexpectedly. What a find - the new M with no camoflauge except for a few pieces of tape that attempted to cover the badges! The good news is that the

Infiniti QX Caught Undisguised

Of the three main Japanese luxury brands Lexus, Acura and Infiniti, there has been one that stands out apart from the rest. That brand would have to be Infiniti. Compared to the others, they have aggressively moved to compete with the German brands, producing stellar vehicles like the original G35 and G37 followup and recently-introduced M sedan at Pebble Beach. What's next for the brand? Apparently, a new SUV. And a nice looking luxury SUV at that! From what I can see, the new Infiniti look really works on the next-generation QX. Very upscale and imposing, I could see this being a success whereas the current QX56 has not been. Not that the dismal sales have been a wonder either; it's too similar to the Armada and doesn't

2011 Volvo S60 Spied

For most of it's existence, Volvo has been a relatively staid brand with an image focused primarily on safety. Pioneering safety developments have resulted in positive changes across the board. That said, when it came to design Volvo was never at the forefront. With new models from the company, that has begun to change. The S60 Concept heralded this change and new direction, with the handsome XC60 crossover successfully following up that look in a production vehicle. The C30 and C70 have also received updates as well. It's the S60's turn to be updated now - rumor was that we'd see it at the Frankfurt Auto Show but reports have said that it has been pushed back (which seems a bit unlikely to me). Regardless of whether

Jaguar XJ Testing

More British luxury news today! Bentley, Land Rover and now Jaguar. Jaguar made big waves with it's London debut of the XJ sedan on July 9th. With style drawn heavily on the C-XF Concept that previewed the XF (but was designed after it), it has proven to be the best expression of Jaguar's design language yet. Until now though we haven't seen any live shots of the sedan out on the road. Over at Autoblog, KGP Photography has taken some shots of the XJ testing in California's Death Valley. I've travelled through the California desert, and practically the only thing interesting about the trip is seeing test vehicles. I've seen a few but I'm always hoping to catch something really special - hasn't happened yet though.

Arnage Replacement Spied

The replacement for the Arnage has been endlessly teased and speculated about, given it's importance for the Bentley brand. Rolls-Royce currently has it's entire business built off the back of it's most expensive sedan, the Phantom. Volume is on the way with the Rolls-Royce Ghost, but it clearly shows there is a lot of money to be made in the segment. In addition to being captured by CAR Magazine, Bentley has released various teasers on the car that have given us a few certain clues. So far in terms of design, the pictures taken by CAR have given us the best look yet, showing off a new headlight design. But today, Auto Express has captured the car testing with it's pre-production bodywork. The images give us a good

Bugatti Sedan Image Leaks

The Frankfurt International Auto Show in September promises to bring a lot of exciting new releases. If everything goes to plan, many important new vehicles (like the Saab 9-5) will be making an appearance. Likely to be one of those is the rumored Bugatti sedan model. A picture has leaked out on the internet of the rear end of the vehicle. It actually came as part of Bugatti's invitation to the anniversary celebration it is having. Of course it is still possible it could just be a succesor to the Veyron, but I'd say that's unlikely at this point. It now has a name too: Bordeaux. (Like the candy! Ha). It is rumored to be a shooting brake - if you've seen the Bugatti concept vehicle that was produced in

First Shots of New Jaguar XJ Surface

We've been talking quite a bit about the upcoming new XJ here on CarThrottle. It's our sort of car: a big, sexy luxury sedan rendered in ultralight aluminum, keeping it's weight considerably below it's like-sized competition (Merc S-class, BMW 7-series, Quattroporte, etc.)  It seems like the new XJ's been "just around the corner" for an enternity, but it's official unveiling is tomorrow - and wouldn't you know, some photos of the new range-topping Jaguar have surfaced! Please excuse the low-quality, low-resolution images - I suspect we'll be seeing some better ones tomorrow, along with a whole slew of details.  For now, we can squint and kinda see what the XJ's going to look like, which is to say a mixture of Jaguar in the front and

Alfa Romeo Milano Caught

The Alfa Romeo Milano is being prepped as a replacement for the successful 147 hatchback. In the Alfa Romeo brand hiercharchy, the 147 is larger than the MiTo and is more in the mainstream for buying tastes in the European market. There has been renderings of the car that have surfaced, and the actual car itself looks very similar to them. It has been caught completely uncloaked- on Facebook, of all places. Blurry picture, I know. That's because it was snapped off (likely from a camera phone) from inside the Italian Alfa Romeo plant where this car is being built. Apparently they must be building a run of test prototypes or something, because there is a large group of the cars caught in the photos and the

Devon GTX Spied

Well, what do you know - I could see this one coming! Devon Motor Works' new supercar, the GTX, has been caught testing. Back when the company made it's low-ball $5.5 million offer for the Viper brand, I said it would be a win-win for the company whether they succeeded with the bid or not. Either they would get an incredible deal and end up with the Viper name, or they wouldn't but would get a ton of free publicity anyway. They latter turned out to be the case.  Before that, no one really heard of Devon Motor Works or reported on them at all; now they are. Congratulations for a smart move guys!  I assume they let this car be photographed on purpose; it has received a
