Lamborghini’s Super SUV: Fiction or Reality?

lamborghini_plans_crossover_concept_for_beijing_2012_002

Currently, there's only one exclusive member of the sports car/SUV crossover club and that is the Porsche Cayenne. Now, though, a range of luxury and exotic SUV concepts have sprung out of nowhere. In the next few years you'll have a choice of a Bentley SUV, a Maserati SUV, even something called an Eterniti and possibly a Lamborghini SUV.  This wouldn't be their first attempt at off roading, though. Believe it or not, this is a classic Lamborghini! It's called the LM002 (or 'Rambo Lambo') and it was originally built to sell to the US Army. There were two engines for it: the same 5.2 V12 that's in the Countach or a 7.2 'Marine' V12 and both sound great but the car was

Students Create Vision of Future Maserati with Garbin GT

MaseratiGarbinGTFrontOverview

At CarThrottle, we love design studies that show off a new and fresh approach for a brand and its styling language. This new one comes from Italy via CarBodyDesign and is sponsored by the Fiat Group. The vision is for a Maserati of the future - 2020, which is actually isn't all that far off. We doubt cars are going to look radically different by then. The car is dubbed the GT Garbin and is the work of three designers, Jaime Cervantes (Mexico), Andrea Coccia (Italy) and Chetan Rajput (India). They designed the car as part of their project thesis for their Master in Transportation and Automobile Design at the Politecnico di Milano. The Garbin's main inspiration comes from the Maserati Ghilibi, however designers wanted to avoid

Rendered: Porsche Cajun Artists Impression

ArtistsRenderingPorscheCajunCrossoverFrontView

In late November, the Porsche board officially approved production of a small Porsche crossover. The new crossover is to be called Cajun, as it has been consistently referred to by the automotive press. There have been various reports about the crossover, but most peg it as sharing underpinnings with the Audi Q5. There have been some noises about it being a three-door only model, but it is all just conjecture. What is clear is that Porsche has seen the success of the Cayenne and is looking to replicate it with a smaller model designed to attract younger buyers. We could see the Cajun doing battle against vehicles like the Land Rover Evoque. With a new model inevitable, Team Speed member Wild-Speed has created an artists

Hyundai Equus Coupe Rendered

When the Hyundai Equus first was shown last year, no one knew whether it would be coming to the United States market. Many speculated that it would remain a Korean-market only vehicle. However, that hasn't been the case. At the time, we mentioned Hyundai doing a coupe version of the model. The styling of the Equus would lend itself perfectly to a coupe, and it could be an inexpensive competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CL (now called the S-Class Coupe) and even the BMW 6-Series. We weren't the only ones to think it is a good idea too, as witnessed by this rendering of what the car could look like. The rendering was done by website This Week In Motors, saying such a car would be able to

Ugar Sahin Design’s Latest: Aston Martin Gauntlet Concept

At CarThrottle we like to spotlight rendered designs for dream vehicles - from the four-door Ferrari to a vision of an Audi A7 Sportback to everything in between. An impressive designer out of those has been Ugar Sahin. One of his creations, the Ugar Sahin Design Mallet ZO3 (based on a Corvette) is actually headed for a production run. Now he is unveiling his atest design, for a brand that is one of our favorites - Aston Martin. With most companies, it is easy to produce dream car designs. Aston Martin isn't one of those companies, because they are already dream car designs. We can't think of any cars more beautiful on the market today. He named his new project the Gauntlet - and it

Mid-Engined Saab Rendered: Saab 9+ Tribute

With Saab brought back from the brink due to Spyker's long shot last minute bid, the focus is (hopefully) going to turn back to product once again. The brand is making the right moves in that direction, starting with a recent announcement about price cuts for the 9-3, taking it below the $30,000 mark. With Spyker being a supercar manufacturer (and one of our favorites), enthusiasts are dreaming up possibilities that the partnership could result from the partnership. One of those dream vehicles is the Saab 9+ Tribute. Designer Eduard Gray has created that car as a conceptual Saab supercar based off of Spyker's mid-engined platform. However, as you can tell, it is sleek, modern and uniquely Saab. It starts off with similar cues as the

A New Porsche 928, Rendered

One of the most persistent rumors lately has been the introduction of a new Porsche 928. When the original car came out it was thought that one day it could replace the venerable 911. Obviously, that didn't work out quite like Porsche anticipated. Porsche has expanded quite a bit since then, introducing the Panamera, whose platform would make the perfect basis for a front-engined 928 GT. It could serve as Porsche's fifth model for what would likely be a low development cost, not to mention increasing economies of scale for the Panamera. But, what would it look like? Member Wild-Speed on the Teamspeed forums thinks he has an idea. Basically, it looks like a Panamera turned into a GT, and the result comes out looking not too

McLaren MP4-12C GTR Rendered

Race cars and vehicle renderings - we've covered both with the latest being the new Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid and a proposed new VW Corrado rendering. McLaren is a supercar manufacturer that is making a comeback to the road car automotive scene, after collaborating with Mercedes-Benz on vehicles like the SLR McLaren. Mercedes has gone off on its own with the SLS AMG and McLaren has other plans, introducing the like the MP4-12C, a car aimed right at Ferrari. McLaren has primarily been a motorsports company as well, which would mean there is a possibility that a special racing version of the production road car could be put on the track, much in the way Porsche does with the GT3 R. However, we haven't got an

VW Corrado Artists Rendering

At CarThrottle, we like to cover renderings from designers that offer their impressions of a future vehicle or their own fantasy creation. Cars like the Ferrari 4- Door, Audi R7, and the toy-car like Porsche supercar are a few we've done in the past. This new one is a modern take on the Volkswagen Corrado, a hatchback performance VW introduced in 1998 and missed by enthusiasts. The design has been produced by Patrick Moczarsky, a professional designer and graphic artist at a company called Miranda Media. Unlike some rendered designs, his interpretation is quite tame. He didn't mess with the Corrado formula too much, creating a smoother, more modern hatchback design that has a similar look up front to recent VWs. The new look VW is doing

Maserati Kuba SUV Design Study

SUV's are a category that many of the sports, luxury and supercar manufacturers have pondered entering over the past few years. With the (quite lengthy) craze over, Porsche was really the only one to dare enter the segment - and much to the chagrin of brand purists. Bentley was rumored to have considered it, as well as Aston Martin (instead opting to produce the Lagonda) and Maserati. Maserati even went as far as to show a concept, called the Kubang GT Wagon, which never made it to production. Designer Andrey Trofimchuk Simeonych is now offering his interpretation of what a Maserati SUV could be like. Behold - the Kuba! Normally, the virtual world of designing produces handsomely designed vehicles that go beyond what the manufacturers do
