AMG Replacing 6.3 V8 with 5.5L Twin Turbo V8

It's the end of the world as we know it. AMG, Mercedes' dedicated performance side-arm, will be announcing a new down-sized V8 at the upcoming Geneva show.  Considering AMG has always  been known for stuffing huge engines in pimped out Mercs, the prospect of a smaller, more efficient AMG engine is a bit hard to stomach at first.  But read a little deeper, and you get the feeling it'll be alright - they're bolting a set of twin turbos up to it to make up for the drop in displacement, and both power and efficiency are going up. The M157 V8 is being de-stroked from a massive 6.2L down to "only" 5.5L, but is gaining a pair of exhaust-driven huffers, direct fuel injection (an AMG first) which

Geneva 2010: Lexus CT 200h

The new small Lexus has been a long time coming. At last year's Frankfurt Auto Show, the LF-CH Concept was introduced, previewing the production version to come. A teaser was released a little bit ago of the car as well. The introduction in Geneva is fitting given that Lexus intends for the car to spearhead the company's efforts in the European region. There has been various reports as to whether or not the car is coming to the United States. We awaited the car's introduction anxiously at CarThrottle, hoping it would signal a new direction for the brand. To survive, Lexus has to attract younger customers - and to do so, it needs to make cool products. Is the CT 200h that product? In short, from

2010 Abarth Punto Evo

Now that the 500 has taken up the mantel of the small fun Fiat, what is the venerable Fiat Punto supposed to do. Carry on, and carry on being a lot of fun, it would seem. Especially when it comes to the 2010 Abarth Punto Evo. Abarth has worked their magic yet again, and the 2010 Abarth Punto Evo looks to be a rather nice Italian take on the hot hatchback theme. The 2010 Abarth Punto Evo is the second model in Abarth’s line-up at this year's Geneva Motor Show, and it's powered by a 165 HP Multiair 1.4 turbo petrol engine. The max torque is rated at 250 NM, so, given those horsepower and torque figures, a car this small should scoot. Not enough scoot

Geneva 2010: Abarth 500C Drops The Top

Fiat's tiny retro-supermini, the 500, has been taking Europe by storm. Styled to resemble the old Cinquecento, and designed to take the fight directly to Mini, the 500 has been capturing hearts and minds on the continent since it's debut.  Like any good supermini, there are heaps of variants for every sort of taste.  There was the pinked-out Barbie edition (gag), the hot-rod turbocharged Abarth models, a Ferrari-inspired special, and even a roll-top 500C convertible.  The Geneva show will see the debut of the latest in the line, which combines the sporty trimmings and mechanics of the Abarth with the aforementioned soft-top 500C convertible. The 500C, unlike most convertibles, doesn't actually have a folding roof- rather, a fabric section running down the center of the roof

Geneva 2010: Audi RS5 Packs 450hp V8

We've been expecting it for a while, and now it's here. Enthusiasts have been guessing that Audi would bring out an ultra-high performance variant of the svelte A5 Coupe since it debuted, but the specifics were a bit cloudy.  With the Geneva show approaching quickly, pictures and technical details of the RS5 Coupe have hit the 'web, and it sounds like it's going to be an absolute stormer. On the outside, the RS5 gets the typical subtle RS-style makeover we've come to know and love.  It's a fantastic look, to be sure - but then again, when you start with a car as strikingly beautiful as the A5, it's sort of hard to screw it up.  The new coupe takes a lot of styling cues from

Geneva 2010: Bentley Continental GTC SuperSports

The Continental SuperSports sits at the top of Bentley's range, as the halo performance variant of the Phaeton-based Continental range.  It's a bit out of place in my mind, to be honest:  carbon fibre this and that, parcel shelf instead of a back seat, E85 flex-fuel capability, a horse-ton of horsepower, Darth Vader-on-meth styling, and a top speed that clears 200mph by a comfortable margin are not things one associates with an "old money" traditional British luxury brand.  Still, it's awesome in an "I don't quite understand this" sort of way - there's no obvious reason for it's existence, but aren't you glad it exists in the first place? Well if you're a fan of the Continental SuperSports, by the transitive property you should be even

Infiniti To Debut New Production Model at Geneva

The Nissan LEAF electric car has made a big splash - it is a big commitment to full-electric vehicles by a large automaker. It is only fitting then that Infiniti, Nissan's luxury brand, would be getting one as well. Every luxury brand is eager to get it on the eco-conscious market and be a leader in the area. Now an all-new production model has been confirmed from to be coming from Infiniti at the Geneva Auto Show. With the Infiniti QX (based on the Nissan Patrol) being debuted at the New York International Auto Show, many are speculating the announcement at Geneva could be the LEAF-based electric-car. That is just speculation though as we haven't heard anything on it from Infiniti - it could be an unrelated

Citroen DS3 Racing At Geneva

Last year at this time, word just came out that Citroen was planning on bringing back the "DS" moniker for a new lineup of more premium vehicles. The first of those was the Citroen DS Inside Concept (DS3 for production), introduced at the Geneva Auto Show. Since then, there has been other "DS" concepts, including the Revolte and most recently, the DS Highrider Concept (best of the bunch). When the DS3 came out, many (including this writer) were disappointed at the lack of any homage to the original, iconic DS. It looks like we just might be able to forgive them for that after seeing the new DS3 Racing. The DS3 Racing is a limited edition model restricted to only 1,000 units. Power has been

Geneva 2010: VW Polo GTI

Volkswagen is on a roll globally, with the company rolling out successful new products and successfully completing a purchase of Porsche. The new Polo was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show last year, debuting with VW's new design theme. It's time to spice things up now with the GTI. The way vehicle segments have grown with each passing generation, it seems as if the Polo is the de facto successor to the original, MK1 Golf. Small, sporty and lightweight Styling changes aren't extreme , but they manage to provide a good effect. There is a new front bumper and airdam, along with the GTI staple honeycomb grille with horizontal red strips and GTI badge. There are also new headlight units with the option of LED running lights that

Geneva 2010: 5 by Peugeot

One thing Peugeot has always been known for is its unique, oddly-styled vehicles. French quirkiness in automotive design that is also shared with the brand's now-sister company Citroen at PSA. Could the company be moving away from that with its latest new vehicles? It certainly seems so. The last concept by Peugeot, the SR1 showed a far more sedate, and dare we say a bit bland new Peugeot styling language. The 5 by Peugeot continues that. Peugeot still has to show its different side in the name though - 5 by Peugeot? You can bet that won't be sticking around for the production model. This concept looks to be a pretty close preview to the production model replacement for the 508. The car looks upscale, clean and good looking,
